The only disappointment has been the Singapore Sling at the famous Raffles Hotel. For those of you who visit us, this will no longer be a stop on the tour. Much better Singapore Slings at the Flatiron Lounge in New York.
We took our first walk through the beautiful Botanical Gardens - it is jungly and wild and refined all at once. Not sure if it was the weather or just being in the gardens that induced a soaking sweat (Lauren was dripping, Mo was perfectly cool). There were turtles and fish galore, as well as dramatic trees and flowers.
Here is a banana flower and a few turtles sunning themselves:

Our friends also took us to a great ice cream shop afterwards called the Creamery. Affordable (which amazingly an issue with ice cream in Singapore) and decadent! (The ice cream was devoured before any pictures could be snapped.)
Much like New York, Singapore is a city where you can wander and find the most interesting sights. About a 15 minute walk from our apartment is the Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple. It is hidden in this residential neighborhood and we stumbled upon it.

Similarly, near Mo's office is an old Chinese Temple. The juxtoposition of these sacred temples with the modern skyline captures the essence of Singapore. Theres also lots of mosques, churches and even a synagogue or two.
Now here is something frightening. Smoking cigarettes is highly discouraged here, so much so, that the cigarette packages are terrifying to look at. Mo's favorite is the one of the decaying foot.
On a happier note, we have had our first house guest! Mo's friend Dupree...ahem....Drew, swung by a for a few days on his way back to the US from the Phillipines for some much needed R&R. And we promptly took it as an excuse to go try a new restaurant. Pictures below are from Jaggi's Northern Indian Cuisine on Race Course Road in Little India.

Oh and here's one last thing for this week. A hole in the sky, spotted last week. That's a rainbow that was in a complete circle right in the middle of the noon sky. Based on some very thorough research - a Google search - this is apparently known as a sun dog, and is a pretty rare ocurrence. Anyone who knows more please do share.
